HiPer ‘Revolution’ Upgrades with New Receiver: HiPer II Print E-mail
Written by Topcon Positioning Systems
Wednesday, 15 December 2010

Livermore, Calif. – December 15, 2010 – Topcon Positioning Systems’ (TPS) HiPer series of GNSS receivers revolutionized Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology when it was introduced more than 10 years ago.

The HiPer receivers set the industry standard for integrated system design and eliminated the need for bulky backpacks and cables.

Today, the revolution continues with the introduction of the HiPer II, a smaller, lighter, more affordable receiver for all GNSS positioning applications.

Topcon’s HiPer II is an integrated, dual-constellation (GPS + GLONASS) Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and static receiver.

Mark Contino, vice president of product marketing, said, “It is always a challenge to improve on the best product in any industry. Topcon accepted that challenge and the HiPer II is guaranteed to, once again, revolutionize precise positioning technology for the survey, civil engineering, GIS, forensic mapping and construction industries.”

He said the new HiPer has “fully customizable functionality and provides industry-leading flexibility to fit any survey requirement, from the most simple of chores to the most complex assignments.”

Following the tradition of Topcon’s leadership in dual-constellation GNSS systems, the HiPer II provides the customer with the advantage of supporting both GPS and GLONASS signals. With a variety of choices of internal radios and cellular modem options, the unit’s flexibility gives the end user the choice of spread spectrum or digital UHF frequencies, and GSM or CDMA modems. The HiPer II also provides expanded internal SD memory storage, and supports multiple field controllers and software solutions including TopSURV and Pocket-3D.

With an IP67 environmental rating, the HiPer II can withstand “the harshest work conditions,” Contino said. “Additionally, the new lightweight design and enhanced user interface provide greater job site efficiency and improved productivity.”

Additional features of the HiPer II include:
• Rugged, lightweight magnesium alloy construction
• Bluetooth wireless operation
• Easy-to-read LED control panel
• Voice messages for receiver status
• Removable, rechargeable Li-ion battery

“The HiPer II is also the perfect network RTK rover, and eliminates all the hassles associated with external modems or cables,” Contino said. “The unit’s clear voice messaging system is multi-lingual and advises operators with information about RTK status, low battery and memory status without having to look down at the field controller.”
