Website enhancements & eNewsletter scheduled; Interactive magazine planned for 2011

Köln, Germany & Frederick, MD – October 6th, 2010 – Spatial Media LLC is pleased to announce the acquisition of www.LidarNews.com, with a mission of further promoting the adoption of LiDAR and 3D laser scanning technology for the AEC, GIS/mapping, metrology, digital heritage, forensic and other related industries. Gene V. Roe will continue as Managing Editor. He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering and is a licensed professional engineer and land surveyor. Gene brings over 40 years of experience in the surveying, mapping and remote sensing fields, where he has taught, built a 50 person consulting firm, and developed software products.

LidarNews.com and a forthcoming digital magazine will offer users, manufacturers, and OEMs a one-stop platform for all things LiDAR–whether terrestrial, mobile or aerial. The first interactive publication will be released in early 2011. An enhanced eNewsletter will begin publishing in early November.

“LiDAR and laser scanning are disrupting traditional 2D workflows offering the most significant boost in measurement accuracy and productivity since GPS,” says Gene Roe, Founder & Managing Editor. “The potential market is just beginning to develop with the technology now being understood and embraced by the early mass market.”

Allen Cheves, President and Publisher of Spatial Media LLC adds “Spatial Media’s core strength lies in our highly specialized, vertically focused publications, and their ability to draw from each other. Each team is led by a full-time industry veteran, flanked by a roster of expert authors. We’re pleased to have Gene on-board, and excited to support such a powerful line-up of contributors.”

Says Roe, “LiDAR News has been fortunate to attract an outstanding group of industry professionals to the editorial team. I am excited about the opportunity to enhance our content and extend our reach with publications that will benefit both readers and advertisers alike.”

The roster of contributors as of press time includes:
Mobile/GIS: Stephen Clancy, Michael Baker
