Creaform's Technology Certified by the Chinese National Institute of Metrology Print E-mail
Written by Creaform
Friday, 30 July 2010

Levis, July 27st, 2010 - Creaform, a world-class company in 3D technology and engineering services, is proud to announce that its technology has obtained the National Institute of Metrology certification.

Two of the 3D laser scanners from the Handyscan 3D® line, that is, EXAscan™ and MAXscan™ scored great marks by complying with the products' demanding accuracy specifications of 40µm and 50µm respectively. These results were obtained after performing feature, distance and surface measurements.

On the other hand, the HandyPROBE boasted great accuracy specification compliance by meeting a 55µm single-point accuracy specification and an 85µm volumetric accuracy specification. It is worth noting that a subset of the ASME B89.4.22 standard was used during the tests that were carried out at the NIM labs in Beijing, China.

This certification brings the spotlight to one of the strengths of Creaform: its great value for the metrology field. A technology so portable and user-friendly is seldom primarily associated with metrology use; Creaform is now turning that perception around with astonishing accuracy results, in conformity with the technical specifications.

"Our technology has been known to us for a long time to be very useful for metrology purposes," says Marco St-Pierre, VP Innovation and Technologies at Creaform. "This certification from an independent and recognized authority like NIM not only corroborates that but also helps us let the world know about it too.

About the National Institute of Metrology (NIM)
The National Institute of Metrology (NIM) is China's national metrological institute and technical center for legal metrology, affiliated with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ). Just like other national institutes of metrology, NIM is signatory of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) and is tasked with establishing, maintaining and improving national measurement standards and conducting research on relevant technologies to achieve more precise measurements.
