GNSS Base Station for precise real-time GIS mapping and data collection

San Diego, ESRI International User Conference, July13th 2009 – Booth # 307 – Magellan® Professional is announcing today the launch of ProFlex 500 Base station a new GNSS solution specifically valuable to the GIS community. With enhanced Internet connectivity granting NTRIP and Direct IP capabilities, ProFlex™ 500 Base station is now offering easy access to real-time decimeter accuracy for precision GIS and mapping applications.

The new version of ProFlex 500 extends the built-in Ethernet capabilities to enable access to the base station through the Internet for DGPS corrections specifically useful to GIS applications. Virtually any mobile GIS/GPS receiver that can connect to the Internet can benefit from DGPS corrections to improve its real-time accuracy. Combined with MobileMapper™ CX, or ProMark™ 3 RTK for GIS, Magellan Professional delivers a complete solution for real-time decimeter GIS and mapping.
With its built-in Ethernet capability and complete embedded Web Server, for full control and monitoring, the ProFlex 500 base station enables GIS professionals to have an efficient and cost-effective alternative to correction networks (public or private). With its instant real-time multi-data streaming capability, users may build their own DGPS and/or RTK corrections server without any additional software or equipment.

ProFlex 500 base station is a highly flexible product that can possibly be upgraded from a basic L1 GPS-only to L1/L2, and up to GPS/GLONASS configurations. “Adaptable to any specific positioning usage, the ProFlex 500 is the answer for companies wishing to build their own base station network providing differential corrections.” said Jacek Pietruczanis - Magellan Professional GIS Marketing Manager. Outstanding GNSS performance combined with high flexibility and scalability make the ProFlex 500 base station a perfect solution for current and future GIS needs.

About ProFlex 500
ProFlex 500 is a rugged and highly integrated GNSS device, designed for multiple applications such as surveying, marine positioning, machine control as well as base station solutions. The heart of the ProFlex 500 is a 75-channel GNSS board that tracks dual-frequency GPS and GLONASS signals as well as SBAS ranging signals, all of which are optimally processed by the patented BLADE™ technology for high-performance RTK accuracy and optimal operational productivity. It contains completely integrated GSM, UHF and Bluetooth for wireless communications as well as Ethernet, RS-232/422 and USB connections. Made to withstand harsh environmental conditions, the product features the following characteristics: 100% condensing humidity proof, salt mist resistant, and shock and vibration resistant as defined in military standard MIL STD 810 F. The receiver has rugged aluminum housing and is IP67 rated.

BLADE Technology Inside
The ProFlex 500 uses Magellan Professional’s BLADE Technology, which introduces a unique patented way to use multiple GNSS constellations for high-accuracy positioning. BLADE also accounts for the GLONASS receiver biases in reference stations, allowing the user to optimally use the GLONASS signals from any manufacturer’s receiver. BLADE even allows the receiver to benefit from GLONASS satellites in the absence of GLONASS correction data by properly weighting the uncorrected measurements.

About Magellan Professional
Recognized as an industry innovator, Magellan Professional has been developing GNSS technology for more than 20 years. Magellan Professional is the creator of BLADE technology, which introduces a unique patented method to the market using multiple GNSS constellations for high-accuracy positioning. Magellan Professional has also introduced the MobileMapper series of products for GIS and mapping, as well as the ProFlex 500 and ProMark series, including the ProMark 500, ProMark3 RTK and ProMark 3, a well-recognized GNSS Land Survey product line currently on the market. Magellan Professional is privately held and headquartered in Carquefou, France, with offices in Santa Clara, California, Moscow, Beijing, China, Singapore, and The Netherlands.
