Brand new LiDAR Compressor turns giant point cloud datasets into efficient MrSID files

At the 2009 ESRI International User Conference in San Diego this week where we are exhibiting in booth #511, we launched a brand new product called LizardTech LiDAR Compressor. This advanced product enables you to turn giant point cloud data into efficient MrSID files that retain 100 percent of the raw data at just 25 percent of the file size. Unlike raw LAS or ASCII data, LiDAR files compressed to MrSID are easily managed resources from which derivatives can be extracted over and over again.

Here are some key features and benefits of LiDAR Compressor:
• Compress LiDAR files - Reduce LiDAR file sizes by 75 percent while retaining all of your points and all of the precision and accuracy of your original file. If you need even smaller files, “virtually lossless” compression can reduce your LiDAR file sizes by 90 percent with no perceptible loss.*
• Use MrSID compression – Now you can compress your LiDAR data to a new and improved version of the MrSID format, MrSID Generation 4 (MG4). MG4 enables you to view and access your LiDAR data faster.
• Easy to use application - LiDAR Compressor is an easy-to-use application with a straightforward workflow. You don’t have to deal with a lot of confusing options. In most cases, simply load your files, preview, and encode. It only takes a few seconds to compress LiDAR data from both LAS and text files!

To learn more about LiDAR Compressor stop by our booth #511 at the ESRI show or visit our website at http://www.lizardtech.com/products/lidar/.

*On average, a LAS file compressed to MG4 at 10:1 using LiDAR Compressor has a RMSE (root mean square error) less than that of the sensor that captured the original data.
