McKim & Creed, a Raleigh, N.C.-based full-service engineering and surveying consultancy, has acquired JMR Surveying Group, LLC, a 3D laser scanning and surveying company near Orlando, Fla. The acquisition was finalized on Tuesday, June 16.
In making the announcement, McKim & Creed President and CEO Michael W. Creed, PE, said, “JMR is a leader in cutting-edge surveying using 3D laser scanning technology. The founder of JMR, Jerry Rinnert, and his staff have built an impressive reputation and established solid relationships with a host of clients that understand the value and effectiveness of these technologies.”

About 3D Laser Scanning
3D laser scanning is a non-contact, rapid data collection surveying technology. Using 3D laser scanners, surveyors can collect millions of points of data on the shape and appearance of structures. This data is then used to create 3D models of the structure, and the models can be used for engineering, architectural and record-keeping purposes. 3D laser scanning is used by manufacturers, heavy industry, municipalities, departments of transportation, private companies and the entertainment industry. It is especially suited for complex vertical infrastructure that is found at refineries and power plants. These facilities are nearly impossible to survey using conventional means, and 3D laser scanning allows surveys to survey these sites. Additionally, 3D laser scanning creates safer work sites because survey personnel can collect data from locations that are out of harm’s way, such as busy road intersections.
