McKim & Creed Acquires High Tech/High Precision 3D Laser Scanning Firm in Florida Print E-mail
Written by McKim & Creed
Thursday, 18 June 2009

McKim & Creed, a Raleigh, N.C.-based full-service engineering and surveying consultancy, has acquired JMR Surveying Group, LLC, a 3D laser scanning and surveying company near Orlando, Fla. The acquisition was finalized on Tuesday, June 16.

In making the announcement, McKim & Creed President and CEO Michael W. Creed, PE, said, “JMR is a leader in cutting-edge surveying using 3D laser scanning technology. The founder of JMR, Jerry Rinnert, and his staff have built an impressive reputation and established solid relationships with a host of clients that understand the value and effectiveness of these technologies.”

Rinnert, president and founder of JMR, added, “We’re looking forward to coming on board with McKim & Creed. As a small firm, we didn’t have the resources to bring our services to the next level, and McKim & Creed gives us the opportunity to broaden our scanning capabilities and become industry leaders.”

With the addition of the Greater Orlando area office, McKim & Creed will continue to provide engineering, surveying and planning services to public and private sector clients throughout the Southeast.

About McKim & Creed
McKim & Creed was established in 1978 by Michael Creed, PE, and Herbert P. McKim, Jr., PLS, PE. Since that time, the award-winning firm has grown to a full-service engineering, surveying and planning practice with more than 300 employees in offices from Florida to Virginia. The firm has won numerous awards and accolades, and has been named one of the top architectural/engineering/contracting firms in America by Public Works magazine, one of the top 500 design firms and top 200 environmental firms in the United States by Engineering News-Record magazine, and one of the 100 fastest growing engineering, architectural and environmental firms in America by the management firm of ZweigWhite.

About JMR Surveying Group

JMR Surveying Group was established in Davenport, Fla., in 1999, and provides surveying services throughout central and southern Florida. The company specializes in 3D laser scanning, structural and heavy construction layout, site development, topographic and as-built surveys, and boundary surveys. JMR has provided services for Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, Florida Power & Light and Skanska. The office is located at 6205 Lake Wilson Road, Suite C in Davenport, Fla.

About 3D Laser Scanning
3D laser scanning is a non-contact, rapid data collection surveying technology. Using 3D laser scanners, surveyors can collect millions of points of data on the shape and appearance of structures. This data is then used to create 3D models of the structure, and the models can be used for engineering, architectural and record-keeping purposes. 3D laser scanning is used by manufacturers, heavy industry, municipalities, departments of transportation, private companies and the entertainment industry. It is especially suited for complex vertical infrastructure that is found at refineries and power plants. These facilities are nearly impossible to survey using conventional means, and 3D laser scanning allows surveys to survey these sites. Additionally, 3D laser scanning creates safer work sites because survey personnel can collect data from locations that are out of harm’s way, such as busy road intersections.
