Written by Canary Systems
Thursday, 12 March 2009

New London, NH (March 12) – Canary Systems has named James Stowell as Business Development Manager with his primary responsibility being the development of marketing strategies to expand the company’s industry base for structural Health Monitoring solutions (SHM). His 25 years of experience in the geodetics industry will provide Canary Systems with in-depth knowledge of related growth industries, such as infrastructure development, that are in need of unique and reliable monitoring solutions including instrumentation, monitoring systems and management/data access software.

“James’ decision to join the Canary Systems team is a complement to the strength and future of our company. He brings extensive knowledge of 3D positioning and displacement, including the innovative technologies and products of that market to our range of products and services.” says Alex Neuwirt, President of Canary Systems. “We expect that his breadth of knowledge and experience will further propel Canary Systems as an innovative leader in the monitoring industry.”

With the increasing public concern, it is anticipated that SHM will play a vital role in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure.  Advanced geodetics equipment, including automated Total Stations, high precision differential GPS and 3D image scanning; are increasingly being utilized for civil engineering monitoring in both short-term construction monitoring and long-term safety monitoring and extending the life cycle of a structure.

In his most recent position, James served as a director with Leica Geosystems and was responsible for product development and marketing worldwide. He established the company’s Reference Station and Monitoring Division. Throughout his career, he has also provided his expertise for, UNAVCO University Navstar Consortium (65 major universities), NASA/JPL, Texas Instruments, Ashtech GPS, Carson Geosciences and others.

James has published professional papers on automated survey tools, large structure monitoring applications bridges and tall buildings. He is a member of the Institute of Navigation, American Congress of Survey and Mapping, American Geophysical Union, American Society of Photogrammetry, America Society of Civil Engineering and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. James received his BS from the University of North Carolina, with extensive graduate work at Stanford, Ohio State and University of Colorado Aerospace Engineering.
