Langfelder Named IPLSA’s New Associate Executive Director Print E-mail
Written by Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association
Thursday, 05 March 2009

Springfield, IL – March 5, 2009 - The Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association (IPLSA) announced today the appointment of Julia Langfelder, 31, as its new Associate Executive Director.

“The establishment of this position reflects a new era for the association.  It shows the critical role of succession planning and how training new leaders can advance an organization while using technology and other innovations to connect members with the resources they need,” says Robert E. Church, Executive Director of IPLSA. “Julia’s background focused on effective communication using various means including the Internet, media, publications and events.  Her experience in this area will be an invaluable contribution to IPLSA as we continue to engage existing members, recruit new members and educate the next generation about this field and the land surveying profession.”

Church has led the organization for the past 35 years.  Among his numerous accomplishments, Church was instrumental in getting the National Museum of Surveying moved from Lansing, Michigan to downtown Springfield, Illinois.  The Museum is set to open later this year.

Langfelder’s responsibilities will focus on creating and implementing IPLSA’s technology plan in addition to building on the relationships with colleges and universities to ensure proper coursework is being offered while expanding these partnerships.  She will also work closely with the various chapters throughout the state to ensure the high standard of professionalism and work are being achieved.

Prior to joining IPLSA, Langfelder was the Manager of Marketing & Events for The Chicago Community Trust, the fourth largest community foundation in the US.  In this role, she managed the development and production of all publications in addition to planning and implementing the events for the Trust and its affiliates.  Langfelder worked for the Center for Conflict Resolution, the Museum of Broadcast Communications, Brookfield Zoo and was a 1999 White House intern. A graduate of Concordia University-River Forest, Langfelder holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Political Science and a Master of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Roosevelt University.

Growing up in Springfield, Langfelder was a 1996 graduate of Ursuline Academy.  She is joining ten of her siblings and parents who reside in Springfield and is excited to be returning to her hometown after thirteen years in Chicago.

Since 1928, the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association is the only statewide organization dedicated to Land Surveyors licensed to perform land surveys throughout Illinois and committed to improving the quality of land surveying in this state.  All members have subscribed to a Code of Professional Conduct, which dictates a complete and high standard of work. In 2008, IPLSA had a membership of 1,200.  For more information, please visit www.iplsa.org.
