Dear Colleague

The Towson University Department of Geography and Environmental Planning is pleased to announce our 22nd Annual Geographic Information Sciences (GIS) Conference. TUgis 2009 will be held on Monday, March 16, 2009 and Tuesday, March 17, 2009 on the Towson University campus. The conference emphasizes information sharing, or technology transfer, by anyone currently using GIS and anyone considering using GIS. Based on the attendance for our 21st Annual Conference, over 600 representatives from government agencies, businesses, and academic institutions are expected to attend TUgis 2009. The plenary speakers for TUgis 2009 include:
• Governor Martin O'Malley, State of Maryland (invited)
• Dr. David J. Maguire, Chief Scientist, Enviornmental Systems Research Institute (confirmed).

TUgis 2009 continues a Towson University tradition of offering exceptional professional education and networking opportunities to GIS practitioners. Conference features include:
• Presentations in plenary, concurrent, and poster sessions
• Mini-workshops on current GIS topics
• Exhibit area with up to 50 exhibitors
• Map design competition
• Job mart
• Special sessions for undergraduate and graduate students
• Special sessions for K-12 teachers
• Post-conference workshops on a variety of current GIS topics

We are currently seeking presentation proposals for TUgis 2009. Preference will be given to presentations related to the 2009 conference theme, "Web GIS: New Tools for Data Sharing and Collaboration." Presentations on other topics related to GIS and related geospatial technologies will also be considered. Proposals will be judged on their value and relevance to the conference program. Written papers are not required (except for the Student Paper Competition). The deadline for receipt of proposals is Friday, January 9, 2009. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on or before Wednesday, January 14, 2009. We are also seeking proposals for post-conference workshops and nominations for the GIS awards program.
