Saturday, 02 August 2008

Altus, the surveying and geomatics industry’s new kid on the block, has recruited Barrie Hogarth as VP of Business Development. A surveyor with experience from all over the globe and a former Senior Instructor of Survey at British Army’s School of Military Survey, Barrie brings both technical and commercial strength to the team at Altus.

Barrie is well known for his roles with Ashtech/Thales now Magellan mostly as Sales Manager for the United States. Barrie has worked with Satellite Positioning since pre GPS days and has worked extensively as a private surveyor shortly after leaving the Army. Neil Vancans, CEO of Altus, says, “We are delighted to have Barrie with us, he brings a great deal of practical insight for surveyors and dealers, which spans positioning and communications.” Barrie is a fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors. Barrie will take up his role in Europe later this year and focus on the United States over the next few months.

Neil Vancans was a management board member at Leica Geosystems in in Switzerland and had responsibility for their GPS operations worldwide. Much of that operation was based in Torrance, California and a good number of Altus people are ex-Leica engineers who were involved in the System 500 development. Chief Technical Officer is Rich Keegan, one of the major contributors to GPS over the years and holder of 20 patents in the GPS technology environment. Altus has an excellent background in surveying and satellite surveying in particular but is even more fortunate in having two great partnerships, Carlson Software who is the world's leading supplier of applications software for surveying.
