San Francisco, May 15, 2008—Bechtel has been named the top U.S. contractor for the tenth straight year by Engineering News-Record (ENR), a leading U.S. trade publication for the construction industry.
“We are proud to be recognized by ENR as the top U.S. construction company,” said Chairman and CEO Riley Bechtel. “We are confident that in 2008 and beyond, our skilled and dedicated employees will continue to build on 110 years of world-class service to our customers. We continue to focus on the quality of our work.”
Fueled by robust performance across its diversified global portfolio, Bechtel delivered world-class projects. North American operations accounted for 40 percent of its 2007 revenue and generated two-thirds of new work. Business was also strong in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Bechtel’s project highlights for 2007 included High Speed 1 in the United Kingdom, the first high-speed rail project in the UK and Britain's first new railway in a century; the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington, the longest new suspension span built in the U.S. in 40 years; Equatorial Guinea LNG, a liquefied natural gas processing facility that will supply at least 3.4 million tons of energy to the market annually; the Fjarđaál aluminum smelter, Bechtel’s first project in Iceland and the largest private investment in Iceland’s history; and Brown's Ferry Unit 1 in Alabama, the first nuclear reactor to come into service in more than a decade.
The ENR Top 400 Contractors’ list is based on construction revenue. See a description of ENR’s ranking in ENR’s Top 400 Contractors’ issue here.
