Henrico County, Virginia, USA
Aurora, CO USA – Merrick & Company, a world leader in LiDAR, digital ortho imaging, photogrammetry, and geospatial solutions began a $580,000 contract with Henrico County, Virginia this week. This project is an update to geospatial data compilation contracts performed by Merrick in 1998 and 2003 and includes LiDAR data collection for the first time. The County will take final delivery in October 2008 of digital aerial photography, planimetric features, breaklines, a DTM, and 2-foot contours generated for the entire County using the new LiDAR data.
Merrick won this contract in a qualifications based competition. According to Alfredo Frauenfelder, Geographic Information Systems Coordinator for Henrico County, “Merrick proposed simultaneous LiDAR and digital orthophotography collection using multiple sensors on a single aircraft. This approach offers significant flight mission cost savings in comparison to performing two separate flights.”
Gary Outlaw, explains, “Merrick is able to provide the County with more data at a higher quality for less cost when compared to traditional approaches for this project.”
Henrico County is part of the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan area and is experiencing increased urbanization and suburban growth. New housing, retail space, offices, and government services required to support the growing population are changing the landscape and driving the need for new and updated geospatial data. County departments such as planning, finance, public works, and utilities access and maintain their respective data on an enterprise GIS server administered by the Henrico County GIS Office.
