Iowa Department of Transportation Standardizes on Eagle Point Survey Solutions

07/10/2007 - Iowa DOT purchases Allegro CX data collection units running SMI Construction with GPS/Robotic in initial phase of statewide standardization on Eagle Point’s SMI survey solutions.
Dubuque, Iowa – Eagle Point has announced today that the Iowa DOT has selected to standardize all of its 6 districts on SMI survey solutions. As part of the initial implementation, Iowa DOT has purchased Allegro CX data collection units running SMI Construction with GPS/Robotic for use on road construction, boundary location, project control and pre-design projects across the state.
“The Iowa DOT chose Eagle Point’s SMI software because of its functionality and compatibility with automated data flow in our design and construction processes. Eagle Point's support, training and customized programming focusing on our particular survey process were key factors in making this choice,” explains Norm Miller, Survey Manager for the Office of Design. “In addition, Eagle Point demonstrated to the DOT that they are eager to support their SMI product as well as customer processes and to seek customer advice for future upgrades.”
Iowa DOT has been using SMI software since version 5 on an office-to-office basis. Prior to standardization, district offices were using a mix of products. Miller hopes that the outcome of the SMI standardization is a reduction of rework in preparing for and performing survey functions and a common automated mapping process.
“We are eager to begin the implementation of SMI software across the state to aid the Iowa DOT in improving the data flow between the field and office,” explains John Biver, President and CEO of Eagle Point, adding that “as an Iowa-based company, we are excited to be working so closely with Iowa DOT.”
As part of the statewide standardization, Eagle Point will also be providing Iowa DOT with onsite implementation and training, along with guaranteed immediate technical support.
