Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging Acquires ER Mapper
Written by Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging
Monday, 21 May 2007
Norcross, GA -- Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging today announced that it has acquired all assets of Earth Resource Mapping Ltd (ER Mapper), a geospatial software company headquartered in Australia. ER Mapper is a world-class provider of geospatial imagery processing solutions that prepare, manage, compress and deploy imagery, thus complementing Leica Geosystems’ existing product portfolio.
The company is the first to market in delivering a new, high performance server application, Image Web Server (IWS), specifically made for the enterprise environment. Designed to manage and distribute large image datasets, IWS provides users access to imagery with unprecedented speed, which is key to utilizing geospatial intelligence within the enterprise. Additionally, as a leader in the development of image compression techniques, ER Mapper brings this patented technology to enhance existing products and future development of geospatial solutions. Moving forward, the ER Mapper and Leica Geosystems product portfolios will be maintained and new solutions will be developed using existing technologies of both companies.
“The acquisition of ER Mapper brings new, leading enterprise technology to the Leica Geosystems portfolio of solutions,” said Bob Morris, President and CEO, Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging. “This supports our strategy of providing geospatial information to much larger, enterprise-wide markets. We also gain additional market access to industries such as mineral exploration, oil and gas exploration, telecommunications and utilities, complementing our own depth of expertise in natural resources.”
ER Mapper has clients around the world, with a particularly strong foothold and in Southeast Asia and Australia that, when combined with Leica Geosystems’ strengths in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific markets, creates a much stronger global enterprise.
“Providing enterprise-level customization & integration services, consultancy, commercial off-the-shelf software products and software development kits to clients around the world, ER Mapper is a strong company that brings new technology, new access to industries and immediate revenue to Leica Geosystems,” said Guy Perkins, President, Earth Resource Mapping. “We look forward to incorporating our products and technology into the solution mix, bringing geospatial intelligence to the enterprise environment.”
The acquisition was made for an undisclosed amount, with an anticipated close date of June 29, 2007.
