RETTEW Reaffirms Commitment to Schuylkill County Print E-mail

Award-Winning Firm Expands and Relocates Local Office to Support Area’s Growing Engineering Needs

Schuylkill Haven, Pa. — RETTEW, a multidiscipline engineering, planning, land development, environmental consulting and surveying firm, announced the opening of its newly relocated and expanded Schuylkill County office at an official ribbon-cutting ceremony held on site yesterday at RETTEW, 950 E. Main St., Ste. 220, Schuylkill Haven, Pa. Among those present were Rep. Tim Seip, D-Schuylkill/Berks; Tom Davidock, natural resource specialist, Schuylkill Conservation District (SCD); Gary Hess, mayor of the Borough of Schuylkill Haven; and Lori Kane, executive director, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce.

“RETTEW is proud to expand our Schuylkill County office to better meet the needs of a growing and prospering community,” said Mark P. Lauriello, PE, president of RETTEW, at yesterday’s event. The move from Pottsville to a larger office in Schuylkill Haven allows the firm to potentially increase its local staff by 60 percent. The firm was named to the list of Best Places to Work in PA in 2006 and has nearly 250 employees total.

RETTEW has helped to improve the county’s waterways by designing two award-winning abandoned mine drainage (AMD) treatment systems. Most recently, the firm worked with SCD to design a passive AMD treatment system that has restored aquatic life to the Catawissa Creek by remediating approximately 12.24 million gallons of toxic AMD daily, which flows from the Audenreid Mine Tunnel Discharge. The largest known passive AMD treatment system of its kind in Pa. and possibly the U.S., this project recently won the governor’s award for environmental excellence from DEP.

RETTEW also worked with Schuylkill Headwaters Association to design the Minersville passive AMD wetland treatment system. Both systems earned RETTEW and its clients diamond honor awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pa. (ACEC/PA).

“These projects are two great examples of RETTEW’s efforts to improve the quality of life for Schuylkill County,” added Clayton Bubeck, PE, who managed the engineering of both treatment systems. A lifelong Schuylkill County resident, Bubeck heads up RETTEW’s Schuylkill Haven office.
