Airborne 1 Provides LiDAR for California DWR Sacramento Delta Project Print E-mail
Written by Airborne 1 Corporation

El Segundo, CA – March 2, 2007 - Airborne 1 Corporation, a leading provider of advanced LiDAR services and rentals worldwide, is providing LiDAR services for the new delta study being conducted by the California Department of Water Resources along with EarthData.

The California Department of Water Resources awarded EarthData a contract for GIS services in the levee reconstruction project in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta area. EarthData contracted with Airborne 1 to provide LiDAR services on the project which is being funded by California Proposition 50 passed in 2006.

The project area is just under one million acres and spans from Sacramento, CA down to Stockton, CA over to Concord, CA and up to Napa, CA.  The area is about the size of 1.3 million football fields or half the size of Puerto Rico.  It took approximately 100 flight hours to complete Airborne 1’s portion of the project.  “Flying conditions were ideal,” said Airborne 1 Field Operations Manager Jerome Gregory, “Since there were no airspace restrictions in the area we were able to fly double shifts and work at night.”

Airborne 1’s services have also recently been used by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to provide LiDAR services for the purpose of monitoring the ground for gradual landslide movement.
