CORVALLIS, Ore.—January 17, 2006—Tripod Data Systems (TDS) today announced a $100-$200 price reduction off manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) for the TDS Recon® data collector when bundled with TDS Survey Pro™ software. The price for the Recon 200 is reduced $100; the Recon 400 is reduced $200. Both Recon models come with Windows Mobile® software.
"Since we launched the Recon in 2003, thousands of surveyors have put it to work under the toughest real-world conditions,” said Daryl Stewart, survey products marketing manager. "Making the Recon even more affordable gives surveyors another reason to upgrade their data collector and take advantage of the Recon’s ruggedness and versatility.”
The Recon is designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions in land surveying applications. It meets MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration and temperature extremes. It also has an IP67 rating, meaning it's impervious to water and dust.
The Recon comes with a 15-hour rechargeable battery, plus two CompactFlash slots that allow users to add memory or peripheral devices such as Bluetooth wireless or GPS. It weighs just 17 ounces, and its rounded edges provide a comfortable grip. Large, widely spaced buttons are easy to use, and its reflective color TFT display is bright and clear in sunlight.
Pricing and availability The Recon is available from TDS-authorized dealers. The new MSRP for the Recon and TDS Survey Pro software bundles starts at:
• $1,699 for the Recon 200 with a 200 MHz Intel XScale processor and 64 MB of non-volatile Flash memory
• $1,999 for the Recon 400 with a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor and 128 MB of Flash memory
