Surveying Special Interest Group Formed to Bridge Surveying and GIS

Redlands, California-The Surveying Special Interest Group (S-SIG), gives surveyors, geographic information system (GIS) professionals, and those with a general interest in a survey-related field the opportunity to work together toward integrating surveying and GIS technology.
The multidisciplinary group combines the knowledge of both GIS users and nonusers for networking opportunities and provides members with educational materials as well as information on industry events. One of S-SIG's main goals is to support the development of GIS implementation in the surveying industry. By sharing ideas and useful GIS data, the productivity and profit of surveyors increase. The group helps achieve this by discussing new technological advances in its forums and newsletters, holding meetings at surveying and GIS conferences, and answering frequently asked questions that arise at the workplace. S-SIG members have the option to download and contribute to the quarterly S-SIG newsletter, receive conference information, and gain access to the S-SIG online survey conference discussion boards. This group requires no fees, only participation and a general interest in surveying related to GIS.
