PRIA Announces Approval of eNotary Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Print E-mail
Written by Property Records Industry Association
Monday, 06 March 2017

Raleigh, N.C. – On February 2, the Board of Directors of the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) gave final approval to the background paper on “eNotary Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)” published by the eNotary Work Project Team, under the auspices of the Standards & Best Practices Committee.

This paper provides answers to 24 questions that are frequently posed by government and business about electronic notarization (eNotarization). The work project team included participants from all the major notary associations, MERS and MISMO, along with recorder participation.

Marc Aronson, president, Pennsylvania Association of Notaries, who co-chaired the project from the business sector explains, “It was a pleasure to work with such knowledgeable individuals to discuss and debate the responses to these FAQs. Questions about electronic notarization are becoming more prevalent as many states introduce legislation to allow and provide guidance for eNotarization.”

Kay Wrucke, recently retired recorder from Martin Co., MN, offered this perspective as the government co-chair of the project. “Recorders across the country are concerned about the legalities of accepting electronic notarizations so this project offers direction on many of the questions that are commonly posed by the government sector.”

According to PRIA President Mark Ladd, vice president of regulatory and industry affairs for Simplifile, “I am pleased that PRIA is again providing the property records industry with timely information about an increasingly common practice for business and government.”

Harry Gardner, executive vice president of eStrategies for Docutech says, “This collection of FAQs is a valuable resource for anyone interested in learning about the eNotarization landscape of today. We look forward to the day when all 50 states support electronic notarization and remote eNotarization, creating a much-needed national support infrastructure for business processes like fully electronic mortgages.”

This project was 12 months in development, from concept to delivery, with the work team meeting weekly. Starting with 50 questions, these were eventually refined into 24 key concepts that are published in the eNotary Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Background Paper.
