Landon Blake, LS
Landon Blake received his AAS in Land Surveying from Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell, Montana. He was licensed as a land surveyor in California in 2008 and in Nevada in 2010. He currently works as a project land surveyor for a small civil engineering and land surveying company in California's Central Valley. In this role Landon actively manages all surveying aspects of land development and public infrastructure projects. He specializes in boundary surveying and right-of-way design for large water supply and flood control projects. He is an active member of the California Land Surveyor's Association Central Valley Chapter where he currently serves as Chapter Secretary and a member of the San Joaquin County Government Liaison Committee. During each of the last three years he has participated in California's licensed surveyor exam grading process as a subject matter expert.
Landon's interest in GIS began during courses shared with the Forestry Program at Flathead Valley Community College. Landon continued this interest in GIS after college by serving as a volunteer programmer and project adminstrator for the open source desktop GIS program OpenJUMP. He is an active member of the OSGeo, serves as secretary for the California OSGeo Chapter, and currently volunteers as the assistant editor for the OSGeo Journal.
Landon regularly teaches on topics related to land surveying, GIS, and open source programming at events around California. This has included the California Land Surveyor's Association Annual conference, the California Fresno State University Annual Geomatics Conference, local meetings of the California Land Surveyor's Association, meetings of the Gold Country GIS User Group, and GIS Day events.
When he isn't surveying or writing code for an open source project, Landon enjoys the hobbies of backpacking, outdoor photography, snowboarding and gardening. He and his wife of almost 10 years reside in Stockton, California.
