The Colorado Department of Transportation has a full time position available for a Land Surveyor Intern or a Professional Land Surveyor. If you're looking for an interesting career with a stable organization, this may be the right position for you!


This position will serve in Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT’s) Region 3 Grand Junction

Right of Way Plans/Survey unit in support of Region 3 transportation projects and maintenance operations.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: This position performs both office and field survey work, although the level of responsibility varies by job title.  The Land Surveyor Intern II serves as a land surveyor under the supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS); while the PLS provides leadership, guidance, and training to others in the unit and is in responsible charge of land boundary surveys, including signing and stamping work with a current Professional Land Surveyor’s Seal.  General duties include:


·         Perform field surveys from initial scoping through final right of way monumentation


·         Perform office surveys from initial project scoping through final right of way plans depositing


·         Conduct research and review of private company, city, county, state, and federal agency survey and title records


·         Examine survey documents prepared by team members and consultants to determine completeness, accuracy, and compliance with CDOT procedures, professional surveying standards, and applicable laws


·         Perform quality assurance checks for contract surveying services by conducting field checks and applying error analysis using statistical methods


·         Investigate inquiries made by department personnel, other government agencies, private land surveyors, and the general public on the location and status of CDOT properties, survey monuments, and right of way projects


·         Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Land Surveyor Intern II: Current enrollment as a Land Surveyor Intern by the Colorado Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

Professional Land Surveyor I: Current registration as a Professional Land Surveyor issued by the Colorado Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors. Please make sure to include your license number on your application.

The Exceptional Applicant will be dedicated to pursuing a career as a Land Surveyor with proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
• Knowledge and experience performing land surveying, including boundary survey experience;
• Knowledge and experience with Trimble GPS equipment;
• Familiarity with right of way plans;
• Polished oral and written communication skills;
• Working effectively in both independent and team situations;
• Analytic thinking and problem solving;
• Time and project management skills;
• Knowledge of MicroStation, INROADS, and ability to quickly learn new software.
